This is due to a number of causes: i.e., teachers are the ones that usually ask questions, the inversion of the auxiliary verb and subject can be especially tricky for many students. This simple lesson focuses on helping higher (intermediate to upper intermediate) level students focus on some of the more difficult question forms. Aim Improving speaking confidence when using question difficult question forms Activity Intensive review of advanced question forms followed by student gap question exercises. Level Intermediate to upper intermediate Outline Focus on auxiliary verb usage by making a number of statements in tenses the students are familiar with. Ask students to identify the auxiliary verb in each case.Ask a student or students to explain the underlying scheme of the object question form (i.e., ? word Auxiliary Subject Verb). Is the fiscal stimulus worked during the Japanese Stagnation in early 1990 crisis - Research Paper Example Indeed, the government introduced several fiscal stimuli, they were, however, not effective enough to bring back the growth that the Japanese economy had earlier witnessed. Opinions on the effectiveness of the fiscal stimulus abound in literature written by economists with some arguing that the fiscal stimulus was not successful and actually degraded the economic growth due to the crowding out effect; while others arguing that the fiscal stimulus prevented worsening of the economy and should therefore be considered â€Å"successful†. In my opinion, however, the fiscal stimulus did not work and the reason for this, in part, is due to the fact that most fiscal stimulus when actually implemented/applied by the Japanese government was seldom close to what the government actually promised to implement/apply. Therefore, the fiscal stimulus failed to work because whatever stimulus was actually applied was never enough. Following the September 1985 Plaza Accord, the Japanese Yen start ed to appreciate which led to Japan’s export sector getting badly hit. To counter this appreciation of the Yen, the Bank of Japan drastically eased its monetary policy reducing the interest rate from 5% in January 1986 to 2.5% in February 1987. Soon, the real estate and financial markets began to expand rapidly as a result of this monetary easing, creating a huge financial asset bubble. In response to this, the government increased its interest rate to 6% in 1989-90. The sudden tightening of the money supply led the markets to collapse and thus began the onset of a long period of stagnant economic growth in Japan. The real GDP increased from 428,826 billion Yen in 1990 was to a mere 469,480 billion Yen by the end of 2000 (Powell). Statistical evidence of poor performance of fiscal stimulus The discussion about fiscal stimulus and the Japanese 1990s crisis finds root in the Keynesian economic principles. Keynesian economists preach that during a cyclical trough, discretionary fiscal policies can help the economy emerge from the trough. That is, when the economy goes down due to cyclical factors, the government by introducing fiscal expansionary policy (applying fiscal stimulus) can help the economy maintain emerge from the downturn faster. The Japanese economy in the 1980s saw rapid expansion and large building up of asset bubbles. Accordingly and cyclically, when the bubbles burst, the economy started to cool down. However, this time the trough was not due to a business cyclical downturn; the economy had lost steam due to asset bubble burst. Keynesians argue that by applying large fiscal stimulus under such situations, the government can reinvigorate growth. The Japanese government did apply several fiscal stimulus programs but was unsuccessful in spurring growth or controlling other macroeconomic indicators either. Figure 1 below puts into perspective the state of the Japanese economy during the crisis. It shows the real GDP growth rates for Japan and for the US from 1985 to 2002. I read two articles that were very contrasting on the ideas of Greek letter societies, better known as Greek Life. The first article was titled, â€Å"University Announces Ban on Fraternities and Sororities† from the Metropolitan Desk, and the second was titled, â€Å"For Some Women at Harvard, Greek Is a Scream† from the Style Desk. One was about banning Greek Life, and the other about how Greek Life can be a positive for social life at Harvard University.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In â€Å"University Announces Ban on Fraternities and Sororities,† Alfred University argued that deaths, drinking problems, and low grades all resulted from Greek housing. To better the learning environment at the school, trustees of the school voted to ban fraternities and sororities. They think that this change won’t have much affect on the campus since Greek interest has gone down 30% from the 1960’s. I think this decision to take away fraternities and sororities is not going to solve anything. People coming to college are forced into a new environment. They are learning about themselves, and sometimes they turn to alcohol to help them cope with the changes. With or without fraternities, they would party and get bad grades as a result of the drinking. Taking away fraternities doesn’t do any good, because the students will revolt by making secret clubs which will be much worst since the university has no control over these. So my ques tions are, now that they have banned Greek letter societies, has the school noticed a change? And is this change good or bad? And has there been any secret underground societies been made as a result of this change?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The argument to this side comes from â€Å"For Some Women at Harvard, Greek Is a Scream.† At Harvard University, they are finding that women are joining sororities more for social reasons. But the social agendas do not include going to bars or partying, instead, they consist of kickball tournaments, pajama parties, apple-picking trips, or outings to Finagle a Bagel and Au Bon Pain. And these sororities aren’t about leaving people out, but instead focus on welcoming women who want to join to be a part of them. The actual funny part is, that while the sororities are strive to be charitable and positive, there are groups that offer the party and exclusive side that normally comes to mind when describing sororities. These groups are the women-only private clubs.

Some regard the arts as having an extra-artistic cognitive function, that they have a message about man’s place in the world which might have social or political implications. For example, there might be a case for supposing that the arts have an important function as a medium for social criticism and transformation. In any case, there is a widespread belief that the arts have a higher purpose to educate by encouraging introspection and sometimes making us think about how we should live our lives. Two heads are better than one. Learning nd working in groups involves shared or learned values, resources, and ways of doing things. Group projects can reinforce skills that are relevant to both group and individual work, including the ability to: break task into parts, plan and manage time and gain communication skills. What strategies were used? Many of my classmates including myself would have preferred to work on this project individually, however every now and then â€Å"more hands make for lighter work†. When my partner and I got together to begin our project we had decided to split the project in half. Same an equal amount of work. I wouldn’t say we used and specific strategies to begin the Mexican Revolution project. We did however follow the some of the guidelines of the design cycle to begin which included: plan, investigate, design and create. What knowledge was acquired? Because my partner had so much knowledge of the Mexican Revolution, she was able to help me clearly understand/clarify certain things that had occurred that I was uncertain of. Because we had to do some research on our own I gained more on the revolution, to the porfiriato era where porfito Diaz himself introduced railroads, to ow important the constitution was for the people. What skills were utilized and developed? Group projects can also help students develop skills to collaborative efforts, allowing students such as myself to: delegate roles and responsibilities, share perspectives, knowledge and skills, hold one another and be held accountable. (We were able to use pervious knowledge from class and what we have been taught to be able to complete the project. I was able to develop and gain more knowledge of the Mexican revolution because of my partners knowledge. ) What will be done ditterently in the tuture? A lot of things will be done differently in the future. Time management of course. We ended up doing it the same week it was due which caused some stress on each of us individually. Although we completed out project in time I would have liked to have started planning the week she told us Just to have had a head start and know what we were doing then actually doing it last minute and not really knowing what we were going to do. Even if we decided to split the work, I would have wanted to still worked together since it was a group project. But above all, it was a great experience working with another individual. 378

Educational technology is defined as the study which involves ethical practices that aid in learning process as well as performance improvement by the use of technology. Technology is usually created and managed when one is using. The term also involves the theories of instructions and learning. Instructional theory embodies the systems and all processes that aid in learning. It also embodies other systems that are used in the development of the capabilities that humans have. The definition of educational technology defines the tools that are used to advance the learning of a student. Education technology has other braches and one of them is instructional technology that is defined as the practice and theory of designing, developing, managing and evaluating resources that are used in learning. It is considered to be part of education technology because it covers its aspects. It is said to be a growing field of study that uses technology to solve the problems that keep on occurring in the learning environment. It is not popular because it has faced resistance from administrators as they argue that technology is not good in class environment. (Elaine Wilson 2005, p 360) Since it offers solutions to the educational problems analysts say that it is important to use it. The main aim of instructional technology is to remove instructions from humans. Analysts continue to say that education needs humans to intervene at one point or the other. There are many instructors that are in the market and their work is to develop materials that facilitate long distant learning for students around the world. They develop e-learning tools with the help of experts in the field. In this context technology refers to the materials that humans use in the process of learning or systems as well as the techniques and organization methods that are used. The modern materials that are in use today include projectors, calculators and portable computers. There are very many people that use the method as a form of learning and most of them are teachers and learners. The use of educational technology can be considered as applied science. The reason why it is so is because technology is a science. According to research, an educational technologist is one who can change education that is basic and prove that that very education is science applied in the process of learning and issuing instructions. Behaviorism is a framework that was used with animals to carry out experiments of learning because the animals are said to imitate humans. This type of theory has lost favor but is still used today. There are contributions that it brought to the development of education technology. One is the fact that programmed instruction has been developed. The behavior of humans change because of the environment the learning takes place. Cognitivism is what has brought changes of perception to the learning of today. Since learning has undergone changes many educators view learning differently. This type of theory focuses on the explanation of how the brain promotes learning. It was brought about by human brain but since it has undergone evolution new models of cognitivism have been developed. These new models are said to have contributed much to the development of computer based education technology. The subjects that this theory has made debatable are the areas of information processing and cognitive load. Constructivism is another theory that educators started to consider during the 1990s. The reason that led to this was because learners construct their own interpretation of new information that they receive and as they with one another. This kind of theory requires learners to use the knowledge that they have together with the experience that they have in order to adapt new learning skills. This theory has made sure that there are learning instructors in place and they guide others to generate knowledge of their own. The educators in this theory ensure that the experiences from learning are related to concepts that are usually taught. There are some benefits that are associated with educational technology. It is the instrument that has been used to take education to another level that it has never been before. This is because according to research education can be measured by the results that it produces. The outcome of the results has shown some improvement in the sector of education thanks to the technology that the system has embraced. There are specific benefits that the system offers. One is the ease at which the materials for the course can be accessed. Most courses have websites and instructions attached for easy access and use. This has made the work of the learners to be easy as they do not have to physically go to school to access information as they can do this at home. The materials that are used to study are also easily accessed. Another benefit is that those who use the system are motivated to learn. This is because the system is created in such a way that it provides feedback immediately and this is a form of correction to the mistakes the student might make in the course of learning. This is because the system has tolls that help the student to edit the work that they have written and this in turn improves the writing skills. They can also be able to exchange information that is to be edited. Subjects have been made easy to learn with the software that has been developed. There has been an increase in the software that has been developed in order to make learning an easy process especially for teenagers and children. The software contains graphics and simulators that are attractive to look at and are appealing to the eye. Integration is also another benefit of education technology. This is brought about by the fact that technology integrates learners as they are guided by technology. Introduction to Externalities When making the claim that free, unregulated markets maximize the amount of value created for a society, economists either implicitly or explicitly assume that the actions and choices of producers and consumers in a market dont have any spillover effects onto third parties who are not directly involved in the market as a producer or a consumer. When this assumption is taken away, it no longer has to be the case that unregulated markets are value-maximizing, so its important to understand these spillover effects and their impacts on economic value. Economists call effects on those not involved in the market externalities, and they vary along two dimensions. First, externalities can be either negative or positive. Not surprisingly, negative externalities impose spillover costs on otherwise uninvolved parties, and positive externalities confer spillover benefits on otherwise uninvolved parties. (When analyzing externalities, its helpful to keep in mind that costs are just negative benefits and benefits are just negative costs.) Second, externalities can be either on production or consumption. In the case of an externality on production, the spillover effects occur when a product is physically produced. For example, the market for cigarettes has a negative externality on consumption because consuming cigarettes imposes a cost on others not involved in the market for cigarettes in the form of second-hand smoke. Positive Externalities on Consumption Because the presence of externalities makes unregulated markets inefficient, externalities can be viewed as a type of market failure. This market failure, at a fundamental level, arises because of a violation of the notion of well-defined property rights, which is, in fact, a requirement for free markets to function efficiently. This violation of property rights occurs because there are is no clear ownership of air, water, open spaces, and so on, even though society is affected by what happens to such entities. When negative externalities are present, taxes can actually make markets more efficient for society. When positive externalities are present, subsidies can make markets more efficient for society. These finds are in contrast with the conclusion that taxing or subsidizing well-functioning markets (where no externalities are present) reduces economic welfare.

Researchers studying mental health have suggested that physicians need to find alternative ways to enable such people with depression come out of their stigma rather than stick to the conventional methods. The alternative methods should help depressed individuals to put back negative thoughts and abide to the treatment regimen which will lead to faster recovery.
